Best hose for holding tank vent pipe?

A couple of months ago I replaced the holding tank vent pipe - and foolishly used PVC. It was fine for a while, but now it's permeating like crazy. The smell is horrible.

So what's the best hose to use? I'm thinking of just using the Trident sanitation hose, a little overkill I know. Or is it?

Trident Sanitation Hose would not be over kill if it is available in the size you need. What size is your vent?

The fittings at both ends are 3/4". I'd have to enlarge a few holes as the pipe passes through several bulkheads - not a problem though.

At the least, I would use proper sanitation hose. When the boat heels, its not uncommon for some effluent to wash up into the vent hose.

Additionally, it's recommended that a vent line be at least 1". Air exchange is one of the key requirements to keep a tank from smelling badly. Odor is caused by anaerobic bacteria that only live in low Ox environments.

Shields white sanitation hose is a good choice for vents. Very few problems in this application (but not so much for liquid hose use).

Trident 101/102 is available in 1" (Defender). Not available in 3/4". Other premium hoses (Dometic, Shields, Raritan) are not available in smaller sizes.

Re: Best hose for holding tank vent pipe?

After some long discussions with Trident I began using their wet exhaust rated hose. They claim it is the same construction only less thick than #101. I have some out there at 7 plus years and no odor....

My boat was piped with Trident WEH and it permiated something terrible by year 10 (when I bought the boat). While it is a good vent choise, it certainly isn't like 101/102.

----

Choises in smaller sizes certainly are limited.

By year ten, not bad...........!!!

I have white PVC "sanitation labeled" hose permeating by year two!!!!

As I mentioned the WEH is not the same thickness of 101 and will not resist odors as long, but unless you know of better option in sizes other than 1" and 1.5" then we are very limited in our choices..

I've tried everything under the sun for the odd vent sizes and the WEH seems to hold up best... Actually for one vent I found a low odor permeation diesel hose in 5/8" and that one has not let a scent out either.... I have tried nearly every brand of white PVC hose and they all stink IMHO.....

Just did my first job with butyl flex this summer so time will tell but I do like how easy it is to work with...
