Newport 27 stop bolt in mainsail track

I recently purchased a slightly used custom made mainsail for my Newport 27. It actually has the N27 designation. Haven't sailed with it yet but I've run it up the mast at the dock in calm conditions. I've discovered that there is a stop bolt near the mast head which is preventing my raising it the last couple of inches. The bolt is actually pictured and labeled in the factory specs. Can anyone tell me why it's there as i see no purpose except to frustrate the #*%% out of me. Is it safe to have it removed or moved a few inches higher. Thanks

good question, can you take pics of it?
can you lower your boom to give your mainsail more clearance?

Hey Fred. Thanks for responding. I'll be taking som pics next week. I fasten a small camera to my job halyard and send it up. I was thinking of lowering the boom. Are there any unforeseen ramifications of doing that?

move the top sail slug down so it just below the stop. check the difference between the old and new sail. make the new the same as the old.

I'm slapping my forehead!! OF COURSE!! I hadn't really considered modifying the sail but DUH!! Easier to move the slug than the bolt, right?? I'll definitely have a look at that!! Btw, the old sail was a full 3 ft too short for my boat so it was never an issue. Don't know where it came from but I used it for a trade-in.
