New Owner Question: Removing the Main Sail

This is a pretty basic question, but I'm fairly new.

I'd like to take the main sail off the boat for winter; however, I can't understand how to get the sail lugs out of the mast guide. All the searching I've done tells me that there should be gap in the guide for the lugs to come out, but I can't find it.

FYI - it's a 1978 Irwin Citation 30'.

Here's a pic where the guide meets the boom.

Thanks.

Re: New Owner Question: Removing the Main Sail

There is most likely a spot up the mast about 6" up from the boom that depresses inward to allow the slugs to slide out/off.

Ah! Found it, thanks! It was hidden by the folds of the sail.

Thanks!

Re: New Owner Question: Removing the Main Sail

that's what she said. Sorry.
Remember, when reinstalling the main start with the head and have someone feed the slugs as you hoist.

I never fed slugs.. we used to put salt on them and watch them melt and die a horrible death! .. Oh sail slugs! heehee.. glad you found the slot.
