Algae X system... voodoo??

I just installed an Algae x system in my sailboat. When I first heard about it and saw the ads I was suspicious. A short while later I was flipping through my Volvo Penta catalog( I guess I have no life) and noticed a similar magnetic device. For some reason I figured if Volvo backed a magnetic type device then maybe there is something to it.( I know, not a totally rational conclusion) In any event I put an Algae X system in my boat. Since my diesel is fairly small, it wasn''t very expensive and was easy to install. However, I''m still not sure what, if anything, it really does. Anybody out there have a strong opinion or some good facts to justify my folly?? Thanks.

well no that you already bought it and installed it does it matter? Just kidding. You might want to go on the practical sailor site and read the articles on "Humbugs"
