aluminum diesel tank

I am getting ready to install an aluminum diesel tank, and of course have had many, many passersby throw in their 2 cents worth. Many state I should use a ''for metal epoxy'' paint on the exterior surface after prepping with vinegar, others still say just plain epoxy paint, others feel I should protect the tank with a ''rubber sleeve'' since it will be in close proximity to the batteries, and others state to leave it alone. The manufacturer of the tank says that painting the tank is ''over-rated''. Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks

aluminum diesel tank

After about 18 years of use, my aluminum diesel tank corroded through - from the inside out! External corrosion on aluminum mounted below decks is negligible. Don''t worry about it.

Gluv-it. All sides. Period. I replaced an alum. tank that looked like it had been shot with buckshot (motorboat). The new one is protected by Gluv-it. Available hardware stores, boat stores, etc.
