Roller Furling Extention

I have a 34'' Sabre. After latest hurricanes in Florida I am having a problem fully extending the jib the last several inches. I have to walk to the bow and manually turn the jib track (which is very stiff). I have inspected the system and can find no apparent kinks, bends, or hits on the furling drum or stay.. I had no problems before Ivan, and am unsure if that is just coincidental. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If the headsail was in place during Ivan''s hit, it may be possible that the jib halyard twisted around the forestay, above the upper furling swivel. This would prevent you from fully extending the headsail the last several inches.

Unfortunately, if this is the case, your only recourse may be to go aloft to release the halyard shackle.

I would guess the upper bearing is locking up. Maybe time for a dismantle and clean up.................._/)

Thanks for the responses. I did find a solution. It may save others some $$$s. I checked the top of the furling mechanism, as suggested. Everything was normal. While above, I "dry lubed" the furling head. Both fixes were to no avail. I went back to West Marine to purchase a thinner furling line, although the one I was replacing was fairly new and in great shape. It was suggested there that I remove four or five feet of inner core of the furling line to make it thinner. This made sense as just the last two feet would not furl. Bingo! Apparently the hurricane deluge had some affect on swelling the existing line that always completely filled the drum. Removing the last 5'' of inner core gave the addtional space required. Thanks to all.
