Actually Mustang makes 3 pfd's that are US approved for commercial use. The one shown plus 2 others both red. They also make specific pfd's for fisherman that are tagged as approved work vests.

All their commercial pfd's are hydrostatic - none of the non-hydrostatics are approved except for 2 for Coast Guard. They make a lot of models including a heavily reinforced one that is only approved for enforcement. And one that will still inflate after a cylinder has been destroyed by a bullet as it has 2 full chambers, 65 lbs buoyancy each instead of the recreational 35 lbs or 26 lbs.

All their products are made in Canada or the US

Interesting website. Mustang Survival - We Save Lives for a Living

Earlier this year Mustang was bought by the Safariland group, a US company that specializes in law enforcement and security products.

I doubt their products will ever be produced offshore.

Correct but the commercial ones are visible either way - except for law enforcement as they don't always want to be seen.

Re: New West Marine Lifejacket?

Brian,

Having red ones would make sense, as the patrol officers at my marina wear red ones. I had only seen the orange one as marked for commercial use while packaged new. But the types you mention would make sense. They could one off many of those for the small market share that they cover with out issues. Gvmnt agency's a lot of time order well in advance, so once they know the order timeline, they order, and the product gets there when it gets there!

I have two of the pill ones, and 4 of the hydro ones. Worth the cost in my book. Altho I do have a couple of cheaper $$$$ cost brand ones for extra's too.

Re: New West Marine Lifejacket?

May not be the best but at the price hopefully more people will buy and wear it and if it saves a life verses not being able to afford one I'm all for it people.
