Repower

Hi, I have a 1976 Hallberg Rassy 35 with the original MD20 Volvo engine. I am considering repowering. I have been quoted $15,000 to install a Yanmar 4J114 with a KM35A.

Is this an outrageous price or fair. The engine compartment is accesible through the cockpit sole-plenty of access to remove.

Thanks!

Repower

I remember about a year ago seeing articles on repowering. A loose rule of thumb is 1.5Hp per ton of boat,of course that rule goes out the window with individual preferences and local conditions somewhat like a 50 hp on a 26 mcgreggor ( sailboat?)anyway a local dealer was selling new yanmar 27hp for about four grand plus installation,I guess bottom line here is it won''t cost but a few phone calls for other price quotes, don''t commit to the big bucks unless you are forced to make it happen you know March 30 2005 wind blowing and 65 degrees throws reason out the window. Best wishes maybe santa will put one under the tree.

Repower

Depending upon your location your marina or yard that is will they let you do your own work and are you willing ? Is the new engine a direct replacement or do the engine beds have to be reworked ? While your at it what condition is your fuel tank in ?

If your willing to post your location you may very well find willing helping hands for the re power , I know anyone here on the north coast of Ohio Im willing to help and I have done a complete gut out of a 66 Tartan 27 in my side yard , so no task is too big .
