Diesel fuel filter

I have located a Racor-like diesel filter/water separator (with vaccum guage, inspection pan, etc.) used on small (i.e., non-marine) diesels here in Thailand. The cost, not to mention the lack of shipping, will make this significantly less pricey than ordering a Racor from West Marine or other supplier. Assuming it''s a 2 micron filter (something I need to double-check), is there any reason it couldn''t be used? Another advantage may be replacement filters for this unit more available here. Pre-emptively, I know there will be some here who will want to say "if it''s not marine grade, don''t use it." I respect that, but would like some evidence that "marine grade" is really anything more than a reason to jack up the price in this case. Many thanks your thoughts.

Diesel fuel filter

i would use it. what have you got to lose?
worst case the housing of the filter might rust. otherwise a filter is a filter.
