Compounding Fiberglass

When applying compound to my fiberglass boat, it leaves streak marks which are absorbed into the fiberglass after the compound is buffed off. Anyone have any ideas on how to prevent this?

Thanks in advance

Try getting some 3M"Imperial hand glaze".
It''s for getting swirl marks out of paint after buffing. When you apply it to glass it kind of seals it.Just apply and wipe off,you might want to try putting some on and then compounding. It may help seal the oxides and keep down the streaks.Bear in mind it''s not a wax and wax has to be applied later. You can get it at a body shop supply store.

Also, it may be that you have a heavy oxide layer and need to wet sand with maybe 360/400 grit and then compound. If it''s old glass when sanding you will have to be careful not to sand to the laminate. You''ll see it start to turn dark when you get close.
