Deck refinish

Looking for a durable finish to put on my deck. Awl Grip or ? How long will it last.
I''m going with Tread Master or a spray on for the nonskid.

I guess I would ask what is the deck covered with now. Not everything goes with everything else.

In the end the treatment is nothing comapared to removing all the deck hardware and preparing the surface then after it''s done rebedding all the hardware. That is the real hard part of the job and really does not change no matter what you use.

The PO of my boat used a one part paint and it lasted almost 4 years. Awlgrip will last a lot longer and can be made nonskid just fine. All painted on products require detailled preparation and Teadmaster is no different. It is laid with epoxy so is not just a simple job. I think Sue and Larry have an nice Sailnet article doing Tread Master. I''ve seen really nice do it yourself jobs with it.

Nothing is easy and the prep work is the critical part.

I have no experience in this, but I have been told Interlux has a non skid paint that is relatively easy to apply.

The boat is on the hard now and I plan to remove and rebed everthing so that will be the time to do it. I''m just reluctant to do something that will be more work in the long run.

We tested one-part poly on our deck, and it lasted about a week. I then went with Interlux two-part polyurethane, rolled, for the whole deck and cabintop, including the nonskid (we added particles for the nonskid sections). We''ve now used it for five seasons of pretty hard racing and cruising, and the paint is showing wear in spots where it gets chafed by lines and on corners here and there. I plan to spot-paint those areas in the spring. We avoided having to re-bed everything by masking the fittings as much as possible, but still ended up with spots on the winches etc.
It is a LOT of work. To put off having to do it again any time soon, use 2-part poly, get a good mask with a filter, and follow the directions scrupulously.

We just did ours in Awlgrip, with the Interlux poly beads mixed in. (there is a wholesaler in FL who still has lots of the Interlux Coarse available) Everyplace else just has the fine poly beads available.
