bottom finder

Need to put a new bottom finder on my 37 Endeavour. There have been 4 others, all dead now. The transponders were all located on the hull just to port of the engine bed and under the port quarter birth. I would like to put a fish finder type of unit on the boat and wonder if that location would effect the transponder signal. Would the keel throw it off?? Firemanbob
