Thru Hull Plug?

A no longer used thru hull (at one time it was for a head that has been de-commisioned).... it's closed. It's capped. Close inspection shows it's all still in good shape.

Someone suggested additionally putting a rubber plug in it from the outside..... one of those "one more line of defense" ideas. Sure it would not be water tight but it might reduce the flow a bit.

Good idea? Bad idea? or Useless waste of time idea?

Next time you have the boat hauled out, why not pull the thru-hull and fiberglass over the hole, getting rid of the potential problem permanently?
