J24 Cabin Sole - Veneer stained-What to do?

My friend brought over his cabin sole and some assorted pieces of teak for me to refinish. The old varnish on the sole was literally falling off. I removed 90% with a broad knife. The rest required sanding. The wood was damp where the varnish was peeling away. I let it dry and hit it with the sander. The holly strips where the wood was damp is darkened (mildew?) and the darker teak is splotchy. I don't want to sand too deep. Is there anything I can use to even it out before applying new varnish?

Wood bleach, not Clorox! Use much less water than the directions state, let it sit and dry, wash, reapply

it should have oxalic acid in it. most teak cleaners have it.

UPDATE...We scrubbed the cabin sole with BarKeepers Friend and water...and a white Scotchbrite pad. Rinsed very well with clear water from the garden hose. Toweled dry and then followed up with a couple of rounds using white vinegar and a sponge. After a couple of hours the treatment had made a real improvement. Not perfect but plenty good.
