Looking for advice on removing the base of my mast *picture included*

Sorry for the confusing title, I didn't know how else to describe it.

My mast is on a tabernacle and while I have it down replacing the rigging, I also need to run new wires down the mast for the anchor light. I am not having much luck so far and I think I may need to remove the base of it.

It is held on by three rivets. I can figure out removing it. When I reattach it, can I use some heavy sheet metal screws instead? How about pop rivets?

Hopefully the picture will help make it sense. Sorry if my explanation is confusing.

Thanks for any advice.

drill out then yeah choose your rivets...3 is simple, any friends with a rivet gun? and basically you could even glue it on if you want...

+1

Also even though its all aluminum, be prepared for some corrosion, and be careful when removing it - I see some white stuff at the joint. I am not sure what kind of rivet you have now but use monel rivets for putting it back.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll be researching rivets tonight.

So I should stay away from simple pop rivets from Home Depot?

What kind of glue would you suggest?

I wouldn't remove it and drill the casting. Because of the tabernacle the wires will be exposed in any case. I would drill a hole in the mast and bring the wires out through a grommet.

I just want to remove the casting so I can run the wires. I've been at this for awhile and finally decided this route. I'm not planning on drilling the casting.

However thanks to corrosion I can get it off. Yikes.

You can get the BIG pop rivet tool from harbor freight it's "good enough" for what you need to do. Heavy Duty 17-1/2" Hand Riveter With Collection Bottle

You don't need to rivet it back on. You could use machine screws if you want. The rivets aren't load bearing, they are just there to hold the base in place when the mast is down.

Don't over think it!
