Faded Black Aluminum Mast

Does anyone know of a product or process (other than re-anodizing) to restore the color to a formerly black mast? I''m hoping that there''s something out there that works like the bluing treatment used to restore the color to blue steel guns.

RGS:

Your mast was most likely iridited, then anodized, and finally painted. That''s the common sequence, anyway. That means you''re really asking what''s the best way to replace or renew the painted surface of the mast. Regretably, the answer is probably to repaint it (mast down, hardware off, proper paint prep, etc.). Long on work, low on expense (the good news) and a great time to take care of all the other little things that suffer from inattention up there. <g>

I''d recommend the International Paints product line: they offer a very good primer, compatible with a good selection of 1- or 2-part paints. I refinished my 3 Bomar hatches (aluminum castings) with their products and found them easy to work with. I used a brush, while you''d want to spray, so you may want to call their Tech line first and have them send you the Tech Sheets for those products.
