Deck cleaner/wax

Looking for opinions on the "best" deck cleaner/wax product.
Older deck... Not showroom shiny... No adverse chalking... Not overly dirty... Just winter grime etc
Just looking for a good cleaner that will leave some kind of protection behind that allows for general upkeep as needed.

Re: Deck cleaner/wax

I too will be interested in what liquid cleaner works best....I am leaning towards a gallon of Hertel all purpose cleaner. Will use around house car and boat.

I have been told by the boat yard guys that their 3000 PSI pressure washer will remove all chalkiness.

What I WILL do is use those white and blue foam type sponges that basically disintegrate as you use them on scuff marks. I have found nothing works as well to remove those black marks caused by tarps chafing, early season skid marks from running shoes, etc.

Re: Deck cleaner/wax

I recently bought one of those cheapie electric power washers mostly to be able to do my boat. Cleanest it has ever been.

I guessing you haven't read Maine Sail's sticky on waxing and compounding at the top of this forum page. A bit more than most of us want to take on, but lots of good tips.

Re: Deck cleaner/wax

Spray 9 and Krudkutter seem to get the best ratings on degrease/cleaners according to Practical Sailor. Nothing that really cleans is going to leave much protection. As far as non skid the only thing I have ever heard recommended is Woody Wax. For topsides and cabin top any good wax like Collinite Fleet Wax or your favorite synthetic. My favorite wax is Finish Kare 1000P Hi-Temp Paste Wax, a good synthetic but Collinite is also good, and more available. (West Marine)

I use a power washer too. Nothing gets the crud out of the non-skid better and there's no need for detergents, which makes my marina happy.
