port light leaking catalina 30

A friend is buying an old Catalina 30.

The survey will turn up a leaking port light.
Port side aft.

The design is a metal ring set into the fiberglass then a Plexiglas fixed light set in the metal ring secured with a flexible strip on the inside.

It appears to be leaking between the plexi and the ring as If I lift the flexible strip the metal channel is full of water.

Other than buying the repair or replacement kits any successful repairs?

Unless they're highly experienced in fixing anything with nothing, they'll probably need to buy something.

Used to see a sign to that effect:

"We, the unwilling,
led by the unknowing,
are doing the impossible
for the ungrateful.
We have done so much,
for so long,
with so little,
we are now qualified to do anything
with nothing."

Re: port light leaking catalina 30

David,
For quick fixes, some on the C25 site suggested flowable silicone, which can be found at auto parts stores. I did that on my C25, and it seemed to work. On the Allmand, I have rebedded with Maine Sail's butyl. We'll see how that works.

Problem solved, almost.
Found a box from catalina direct with the repair kit for all the windows.
Just not installed.
