Removing headline?

Just purchased a 1980 Mariner 28. The cabin is nicely finished off including the headliner...vinyl with teak strips and zippered below winch and block locations.
Unfortunately I have to get to some areas not accessible through the zippers. I am assuming the the teak strips are screwed in the cabin top you can faintly see the plugs.
How do you get the plugs out without destroying the teak strips?

drill into the middle of theteak bung (plug)> use a drill bit the same size as the bung, and drill until you come to the screw. clean out the hole, then remove the screw. when you replace the headliner you have several choices to finish to off without replacing the bungs. Let me know when you are to that point. tmc

Another way to remove the teak plugs is to drill a small hole in the center of the plug. Insert a suitable size screw into the hole. As you screw in the smaller screw it will "jack" out the plug exposing the larger screw behind the plug.

I believe this method reduces the chance of accidently enlarging the original hole. If the hole is enlarged, the new plugs won''t match the hole size and would be difficult to install properly.
