Re: Tig welders

Well I need the AC for welding aluminum. With limited space on board, I don't want to keep 2 or 3 machines around, if I can find one that I can use for stick and tig welding from steel to stainless and aluminum. Tomorrow I am borrowing a welder to fix the outrigger on one of the shrimp boats. I just don't like to borrow or hire things out and rather use my own tools for a job at hand.

Re: Tig welders

Depends what kind of amperage you are after, and wether you are doing a ton of aluminum.
If its only now and again, and you are mostly doing thin stainless, i would have a look at the miller maxstar stl. Its a dc stick/ tig machine. Dc tig welding aluminum works just fine, especially if you have helium. Expensive, but if your not doing much alu then its worth it.
If you insist on AC welding i would look to thermal arc for a cheaper tig only welder.
