Need stainless wire recommendation...

It''s time to replace the lifelines aboard WHOOSH. If I chose the conventional vinyl-covered 3/16" wire that I currently have, I''ll find few choices in wire, as only 1 or 2 manufacturers make such wire. OTOH, if I choose uncovered wire, my choices of wire should include alloys with more chromium, nickel & molybdenum and therefore less ''stainless'' and more presentable. As we''ve bounced around the Caribbean this year, we''ve seen many examples of how ''316'' wire nevertheless stains over time when the boat is rarely if ever washed down by either the owner or Mother Nature. Yet occasionally, we come across a boat with bare wire lifelines that have managed to remain shiny & presentable.

Leaving aside comments about wire construction & the value of vinyl covering, I''d welcome any suggestions of specific wire manfacturers that offer high-quality wire, highly resistant to surface corrosion. In short, I''m looking for super-austenitic stainless wire and not sure where to find it.

Many thanks!

Jack Tyler

jack,
we used 1x19 uncoated rigging wire for our lifelines . it has held up well in the caribbean.
orc rules do not allow coated lifeline wire.
