I have a owner who wants to put a hailer on his new catalina 440 mast before we step it. There is no radar on the mast to protect it and we are concerned about fouling halyards and sails. Anyone have any ideas.

Why not mount the hailer on the cabin roof. It would make more sense there, and if done properly, less likely to cause chafe on the sails or snag lines. Also, the wiring is much simpler.
Thanks for the suggestion but I don't think it would look too good on the cabin and with all the lines led aft to the cockpit there isn't a very good place for it there. I think I'll try to tuck it under a spreader close to the spar facing forward and hope for the best.
