Westerbeke 60 fresh water pump repair

Looking for a rebuilt kit or information on someone who rebuilds fresh water pumps.

This winter I rebuilt the water pump on my Westerbeke W27B. By rebuilding the pump you''ll save about $250. Removing the pump body from the engine turned out to be the most work of this very simple procedure but this is the only way to rebuild the pump. Once the pump is removed from the engine, two seals and a graphite bushing are all that''s necessary to replace. The seals can be purchased from Westerbeke but Berry Bearing has them as well, they are a standard size. The bushing must be purchased from the OEM. If you have any mechanical abilities and access to a press you can easily do this yourself. Note when removing the seals that they are oriented and must be replaced in the same direction. A mistake here could let your engine oil out or sea water into your crankcase.....Bad.

Thank you Denr for your response. Unfortunately Westerbeke does not offer components for this pump as no kit is avaible. i was hoping to locate suppliers for the badly pitted impeller, seals and bearing. a good start might be the phone mumber for Berry Bearings. Apperciate any help.

Ed, I have a W60 that''s 21 yrs old and I found the FW pump needed to be either rebuilt or replaced after buying the boat (a Pearson 424). The W price was - typically - outrageous, but the mechanic I was working with on all the engine projects just rebuilt it using off-the-shelf parts. He went to the local W/Yanmar/Perkins dealer, prowled around his parts bins, and found the seals, bearings, etc. he/we needed. His labor & the parts ran about $200, a large savings. The pump has worked well during the past 1.5 year cruise (about 500 hours on it, now).

Berry Bearings is a northern Illinois industrial distributer. If it is just the impeller and the cover plate gasket you''re looking for, these should be avaialble from Boatus or West Marine. I''m sure the bearings and seals can be located from a local industrial distributer in your area. The two seals and bearing cost me less than $20.00.
