SpinLock rigid vang

I have a Spinlock rigid vang and am having difficulty with the lock/release switch. While it always goes freely into the lock mode, it rarely cleanly switches to the release mode. Usually it will travel halfway between green (locked) and orange (free) and that seems to be enough to free the vang, but it can take many tries to get the switch moved enough to release the device.
Anyone experiencing the same? Got any tricks/ suggestions?
