Question GPS with cell phone?

Hey, folks, I came across an article the other day, it says that a firm in Amsterdam has developed a new software called Nav4All, that is designed to be uploaded to our GPRS cell phones, and by collaborating with an external GPS receiver, helps the phone holder to locate, and moreover, it can also help the user to find the way to virtually any corner of the world by simply sending a request to a backstage central server via GPRS internet, holy God, that's so cool! Has anyone here actually tried out that kind of thing?

Pocket PC Cellphone works ...

I got my Verizon Pocket PC Cellphone last month, paired a bluetooth GPS with it and use "Destinator" Software for Land (Street-) navigation even with Voice prompts. Works perfect. I assume it could work for marine navigation as well, if one installs a nav-software thats works on a PDA that runs as a pocket PC. My phone runs WIN Mobile 5.0.

I love this setup in my car (one device, one cradle, one charger for all the functions, incl. all my contacts from Outlook on my PC) I will look into a marine solution to have it as a back-up in case my chartplotter on my boat would malfunction....

Pardon me for not being in awe, but using a GPS plus computer plus radio (what you call a cell phone) is old hat. There are many companies and solutions in use but the market is very fragmented and poorly publicized.

Smile who wanted to awe you ?

Sorry, JARED that this is old news to you. I just wanted to share my experience with coolbzl and didn't mean to get your attention.

I was under the impression this forum is for asking & sharing, not for awe-ing. If this is so known by you but so poorly documented, why don't you share your knowledge with all of us and publish something, we all can use instead of possibly discourage some member to ask or answer ....
