Lightbulb seacock replacement in H2o

Boat is in and now I come to find the sink valve is broken in the closed position so the sink won't drain. My idea is this; get a wax toilet gasket, a joint compound lid and some tie down straps and a 5''x5'' wood block and the new seacock. seems reasonable to me. If you've attempted this only to take up bingo please respond.
