Anyone have any experience, pro or con, with Globe Impellers? They are advertised as being able to run without water in the pump or 15 min or more. Are they a worthwhile product?
Globe impellers were originally sold under the name Barco. Many years ago there were some problems with them coming apart in short order. That has, to the best of my knowledge been solved. I have used them satisfactorilyfor several years in both main engines and generators and have accidentally run them dry for a minute or two. One thing I have noticed is that they fail less sudenly than neoprene. On my own boat I have water flow alarms on all engines. When I notice the alarm coming on at idle I know it is time to change the impeller. I have yet to chase pieces in the heat exchanger. They seem to outlast neoprene by at least 2/1 so as with most things even if they cost a bit more up front they are worth in in the long run.
