Portable Generators -- Hazardous?
I am considering carrying one of those little generators aboard my 34-foot sailboat. It would be used for emergency battery charges and occasional use of 110 appliances pending the installation of an inverter.
However, I am concerned about gasoline vapors. Obviously, it''s not worth risking our lives for this small convenience.
The generator would be stored in a cockpit lazarette. The gas can would be kept in a locker on the swim platform which is isolated from the other spaces in the boat. I would set the generator on the swim platform when it was in use, lashed of course.
Convenience, or potential mushroom cloud? Thoughts?
