Sherwood Impeller question

I have a Catalina 30 with a Universal M3-20. I was changing the impeller on the Sherwood water pump this morning and the Woodruff key which holds the impeller on the shaft fell into an inacccessible area (just my luck!) After trying several shops in the area (even with the part number) no one had the key or could me if it is stainless or some other material. Does anyone know what material that key is supposed to be?? I finally found one at an autoparts shop, but it's just regular steel.

Woodruff key

Last time I had to replace on my Sherwood, it looked like plain old steel to me. Nothing fancy.

Have you tried to retrieve it with a magnet. If it is just plain steel, it will get picked up with a magnet fairly easily. This would also let you know if the ones you found at the autoparts shop would work if you lose it again..

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
