Steering Chain problems 1981 Catalina 38

The steering chain on my 1981 Catalina 38 broke. What's the best approach to repair. Fish chain through pedestal over top gear? Is there a bottom sprocket? Where do I find a master link to repair or replace entire chain. Disassemble pedestal? Any thoughts. It is a Yacht Specialties pedestal.

You can get what you need from edson, the sailnet store lists all edson products bar the custom stuff.

Edson chain is the same as YS. It is 5/8ths

Oh and your other questions, no thre is no bottom sprocket, the chain is attached to cable in most cases with a clevis/shackle. If you broke the chain your cables should have fallen through the base. Taking the pedestal apart is easy if the screws are not corroded. Start from the top down until you get to the sproket and fish your new chain/cable up from the base and over the sproket and back down...

It is no big deal..
