Has anyone installed underwater LEDs on their boat...?
Where did you place them...?
I don't have a swim platform or open transom, (tiller steering) so I was thinking more toward the sides in aft of hull...more where my boarding ladder is...?
How much wattage did you use... will 18 watt (6x3w) on each side be enough..?
Not sure without putting more holes in your hull. If you are thinking of divers while anchored we just put out three or four every five meters on the anchor line so we can find the boat easier at night.
I have seen them, but am hesitant about putting holes in the boat for cosmetic usage. The big battlewagons are using them as fish lures so I don't doubt the systems work, but I have no direct experience with them.
There are underwater lights on many of the catamarans in the charter fleet where I work. They do attract fish like crazy in my area. The only negative I see, other than a very small hole in the boat, is that one has to be diligent about keeping the sea growth wiped off of them since you obviously can't bottom paint the lens.
I confess I would like to seem them banned from very existence. The other weekend we anchored in one of our favourite spots, only a couple of other boats, full moon, clear sky and right next us this nasty stinker with the now seemingly inevitable blue LED curtain around the waterline. Effing awful. The knobheads on board wouldn't have even seen the light show, they were more interested in watching their bloody TV.
Yeah, OK, so I'm a grumpy old man but really, what ever happened to a bit of peace and quiet.
A friend installed some underwater LED pond lights on the stern tubes of his pontoon boat. He used 5200 to bond the lights to the pontoons. Looked great. He plugged them all into an inverter and their color changing was synched.
Squidd , It's a power boat thing drop it please . tdw you seem to be holding back , tell us how you really feel , or send some combat Wombats over to Squidd's boat to gnaw through his electrics.
Yeah, but just imagine what a cool video you could make with a GoPro on a drone?
I'm with tdw, one of the things that can really spoil a beautiful night at anchor is excessive Light Pollution... One of the big downsides in recent years in otherwise pristine places like the Exumas, is the extent to which they have become infested with charter McMegayachts, lit up like floating cities...
Well, if you wrap a lobster pot line around your prop at night I'll be they come in mighty handy.
I'm not a fan of them myself but before I start bitching I remind myself that my grandfather thought The Beatles wore wigs and Dylan was a homosexual who didn't shower.
It forces me to make lame attempts not to get too crotchety
OK, I should go a bit easy on Squidd and I hope hhe realises there is a degree of levity in my posts.
Rob G, the Beatles and Dylan did not impinge on other people's desire for a bit of peace and quiet, though maybe their fans did.
That is my real bugbear with these things. It seems there is no protection against annoying oiks of one form or another.
