tekguyonroad is on a distinguished road
head & holding tank

I am in the process of purchasing an Islander 36 as a live-aboard in SF Bay. The marina I am going to live at has just informed me that the boat must have a holding tank. I was planning on just using the bathrooms on land. I am looking for information and opinions as to ideas regarding fitting an appropriate head and holding tank.
Thanks

The reason the marina probably requires you to have a holding tank is to help reduce accidental head discharges into the water, which they can be fined for. If someone does use the head on your boat, and you have not holding tank...guess where it goes.

I would look to an Islander owner's group for information on fitting a holding tank, as they'll have a fair amount of experience with it.

One that may be able to help you is: http://www.islander36.org/

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
