nissan 9.8

I have a nissan 9.8 two stroke. It stalls and wont start, no fuel in the bowl. I have changed the filter and fuel and problem persists inconsistantly. If i remove the bowl and pump fuel in, then reassamble, it runs fine. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

when you get it running try squezing the bulb on the fuel line. you will be sort of a manual fuel pump and see if it keeps running if it does it may be fuel pump time. try it with a differnt fuel line between the tank and engine. you can rebuild the fuel pump. If I remember right. Look at all the lines under the cowl for cracks or splits any where it can suck air.

ps make sure connections are good and vent on tank is open.

thanks Searcher, I am sure it is not the fuel pump. If I open the bowl drain screw and use the bulb, nothing comes through, I am stumpped. Thanks for the thoughts.

Sounds like a clogged carburetor. Have you tried rebuilding/replacing the carburetor?

Ditto SD's response...when you do it...take off the bowl and clean it out making sure the fuel float mechanism is lubricated and not sticking open or closed.

I would second the recommendation to replace the fuel supply line from the tank to the engine, including the tank and engine fittings.

When you say you're sure it isn't the fuel pump, how do you know? Have you tried running the fuel pump and seen fuel coming out of the hose that goes to the carburetor? If not, it could be the fuel pump, but if it isn't the fuel pump, I don't see what else, besides the carburetor, it could be.

Did you try cleaning/re-building the carburetor yet?

i am going to clean, the carb, I think i have a sticking float valve and I will focus on that. The carb bowl is empty every time this happens.
Thanks for all the input

The float valve seems to have been the culprit. I guess some fuel gummed it up over the winter. I sprayed the system with carb cleaner from PB and it now works fine. Thanks for the thoughts.
