AIS Signal through Icom PRC 1500 Receiver

I am trying to get this scanner working through my laptop that will get the AIS signal I need to run my Ship Plotter program. Can I just hook up the scanner and get the signal or is there some special setup required?

I am also trying to tie in a Miniplex 41BT Bluetooth divice so any of the laptops on board can share this data. Is this a complicated process?

If the PRC1500 has NMEA output, then you should be able to connect it to an NMEA input on the Miniplex and then a computer connected to the Miniplex should see the NMEA data from the AIS unit. You should be able to connect one computer to the serial port (RS-232) and the other via the BT interface.

Whether the ship plotter software understands the NMEA data AIS information is really dependent on the program and how it was written, etc. You will probably need to configure the software to read the data from the proper port on each machine.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
