Rigging Worries

I recently purchased my first boat, a 68 Ericson 23. My wife and I love it. I've had to tighten several turnbuckles on the rigging due to missing cotter pins/lose jam nuts. I've replace the pins and inspected the cables and fittings and they appear sound. Does the rigging need professional tuning? I've seen some pretty expensive devices to measure tension in the wires, but is there a technique I can use to ensure the rig is safe?

You can tune your rig yourself fairly well. In one of the recent magazines, Good Old Boat IIRC, they had a pretty good article on rig tuning. Might be worth looking at.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
