Pettit Vivid

Has anyone used this bottom paint? If so how would you compare it to other bottom paints, specifically Pettit's Trinidad? The Trinidad uses the cuprous oxide (75%) while the Vivid uses cuprous Thiocyanate (25%)

NOTHING beats Trinidad SR, for my money. Vivid is good, seems to have excellent anti fouling properties, but is extremely ablative and does not withstand cleaning well. If it's my money, I'm using Trinidad.

Ablatives have only one or two advantages, and those are outweighed by the disadvantages, IMHO. Of course, ablatives do not build up layer upon layer that will, at some future date, have to be removed. They also can withstand being exposed to air for extended periods, making them useful for trailerables. But they do not have superior anti fouling properties (when compared to a good modified epoxy paint), do not stand up well to cleaning (and they do need to be cleaned as often as anything else) and they are more harmfull to the environment than modified epoxies. In fact, in some places in this country, in-water cleaning of ablative paints has been banned.

Just remember if your boat is a dock queen and doesn't get out much, the ablatives aren't going to work very well...they need water flowing over them to work properly.
