Does anyone use On-Deck Stowage Containers?

As I gather info for a life of cruising in the not-too-distant future, my wife asks me about certain amenities she wants to have. For example, we would like to have a pair of fold-up bicycles to use at our many ports of call. Can items like these be stored safely on deck inside a sturdy, waterproof, lockable container? Is anyone else doing something similar?

All opinions and info appreciated.

Duane

Duane,
I added a standard dock box to my center cockpit cutter and I use it to store lots of things.
Its best for extra jerry cans and also gasoline. These items cannot be stowed below deck and the sun will slowly break down the plastic. Also emergency lines and a snorkel and fins are kept there in case I have to go overboard quickly in tropical waters.
The box keeps the deck in neat condition and you can reach anything you want to stow in it immediately at hand.

Thanks, Athene.

You didn''t mention any negatives, so I''ll assume for now that you haven''t found any.
