prop brake

annie and I sail a Cheoy Lee 44 that has a hydrolic transmission. The dang prop keeps turning when I stop the engine. I''ve tried in gear, out of gear, reverse gear, stoping in various configurations and am now considering more direct approaches. I wonder just how much force a prop can put on a shaft and what might really work to stop it. yep, I''m thinking rope here. and then there is the auto motive disk brake idea, and then there is the fan belt x pulley rig. If any of you have solved this problem I''d really like to know how you did it.

the constant turning eats up the stuffing box stuffing and it''s NOISEY

prop brake

The big guys (West, Defender, etc.) sell a device that is used to stop the shaft from turning. A rope is a bad idea in my opinion.
