The Fiddle Block hornpipe

What are the advantages/ disadvantages of a pair of fiddle blocks vs. a pair of double blocks for a mainsheet?

A fairer lead for the sheet is the advantage on the fiddle blocks as the sheet does not have to go sideways as much but they take up more space vertically than double blocks. I have a 4:1/16:1 mainsheet set up and I use a double block on the boom bail to keep it clear of the bimini top and cam fiddle blocks on deck for the fairer lead.
