asymmetrical or UPS ?

I am considering adding a gennacker to my Beneteau 331 however in looking at what product options are out there it seems my money may be better spent on a UPS ( or equivalent) sail. The UPS option adds less sail area but seems to offer a much larger range of use. I am primarily a cruiser although like all sailors any boat going the same direction constitutes a race ( so far the B331 has done surprisingly well). A bit of extra sail for light air days is my primary motivation. I would appreciate input from anyone with comparative experiences.
