bolt on Gudgeons?

Hey there,

My "new" Lapworth Gladiator is going through some major over hauls right now and I've reached the rudder and I'm in need of help.

The design is such that there is a solid bar coming from tiller to the base of the keel ( passing through the spine of the rudder) resting in a metal seat bolted on the back end. There was two brass Gudgeons attached at the top and bottom of the rudder to the solid bar keeping it all connected... these no longer exist due to corrosion and need replacing.

This link Gudgeons & Pintles on the Alberg 30
has a pretty good example of what I'm talking about, with the only difference being I need the Gudgeon to tighten around the pintel or bar in my case.

Now i can't find any and i need help either locating a pair or making my own.

Thanks for your time, anything helps.

Try Buck_Algonquin
Try Robin Hood Spartan Marine Fittings
Maybe Simpson-Lawrence if they still exist.

Looks like a very simple thing to fabricate yourself ,out of stainless. No harm in going a bit oversized ,if you have the room.Wider on the straps, etc , would help.

OK, then try Davey and Co. in the UK. They are lots of fun. At least you'll get a kick out of looking at their inventory. But I think you may have to have some fabricated. This is a very esoteric fitting.

Honestly, I figured as much.

It would seem that the two best options would be to either
1) Find a suitable stainless clamp that could have two straps welded on either side of it or
2) Smithing (bending) a stainless strap around the pintle and onto the rudder, with a small support beam that fits in-between the two sides of the strap, cupping the pintle. The support beam would have the "tightening bolt" passing through it.

thoughts on these two ideas anyone? or perhaps a better idea?
