Alternator problems

Just installed a new 60 series Balmor alternator, along with their Xantrex branded smart regulator. Problem is, I am not getting any LEDs lighting up on the regulator. Tried their troubleshooting guide, but was stymied by the first test. It said to check for a magnetic field at the pulley with the ignition in the OFF position. It said there shouldn't be one, but there is. They don't though, tell you what it means if there is, only the next steps if there isn't one.

I've e-mailed their tech support, but thought I'd try here as well. Any insight is appreciated. Electronics is not my strong suit, but as near as I can tell, everything else checks out.

John...have you already done the regulator tests before looking for the magnetic field at the alternator? These may point the way to the problem.

Also...Balmar makes their own brand regulators. I am unaware of any connection to Xantrex. Where did that information come from? Have the 2 companies merged?

The Balmar name is imprinted on the case of the Xantrex model, hence my assuming it is made by Balmar. Still trying various tests.

Ahh..so Xantrex is re-branding a balmar regulator. The balmar site may then have their version of your model and tech tips so probably worth checking out. They were very helpful over the phone when my 3-stage went out and I had the test results for them. Good luck!

Thanks Cam, returned the regulator for a new one, seems to be up and running. Still have to test to make sure it's all charging properly.
