Cushion Covers

I have an O'day 272 and as part of my winter layup I'd like to wash the cabin cushion covers. They appear to be a synthetic wool plaid. Kind of a course weave. Any opinions? Advice?

If it is a synthetic wool then what ever you do don't use a clothes drier. The results could be messy. Depends on the cloth.

Take one of the covers to a profesional dry cleaner and ask them or alternatively hand washing and line drying may be your best bet.

Gentle cycle and woolite is always a pretty good fallback position for unknown fabrics. It is unlikely that the materials are "dry-clean only" if they were on a boat. Air drying is usually safer than using the drier though.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I have also researched the cushion cleaning options and have determined that I will take them to my local car upholstery cleaners and let them do the service for me. My manual recommends that they be dry cleaned and my zippers after almost twenty years look rather frail so at the car detailers they will dry clean, deoderize and scotts guard my cushions without removing the foam. So far I have not proceeded with this endevour and have not recieved a quote.

Fair Winds,

Bill
