Rubber-ish looking bushing at top of harken roller furler?
I have my rig down to do some spring maintenance. When I got to the top of my furler foils before it clips to the forestay mount there is a sorta rubber bushing? Mine looks weathered (see pic). Any safety concerns? I was going to spray it with some silicone based lube for good measure. Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks for the link. I found a "quick sheet" on their furler that showed the MK2 but couldn't find a full manual on it. Of course I've been down in the lazarette for most of today rewiring so my brain could be in a confused disposition lol.
The other furler manuals refer to the piece as a top trim cap. With the word trim in it I assume it's for looks and to keep salt water out. Neither of which I am worries about. Thanks
I built a MKIV furler last fall. That top cap is supposed to have some space between the cap and the fitting. The cap keeps the foil centered on the stay so the aluminum foil does not wear on the wire.
As long as the inside is not worn out you should be ok but it may be a bugger to remove should you need too.
