I'm going to be installed an A/C and heat system on my O'Day 322. I currently live on this boat about half the time and want a thermostat controlled system for the nights at the dock. I'm in Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay.
I'v done quite a bit of research and decided since I will be on it through the cold season, except the coldest month or two during the winter, I need a system with a heating element and not just reverse cycle heat that will work when the water get's too cold. I know it will use a lot more electric, but that's not a big concern. I also want a unit that has a "dehumidify only" setting for when I'm on-board and don't need heat or AC.
The only company I found that has something that meets my requirements is Flagship Marine. I haven't found anyone else that uses a heating element, and many don't seem to offer a dehumidify setting in the smaller units.
So, just wondering if there are any other companies out there before I go ahead and order one. I have no problems with the Flagship Marine units, but I just want to make sure there aren't any other options before I buy. I'm looking for a unit between 8-10k BTU's, I know it won't keep it at a perfect 70 during the extreme conditions, but I think it will be good enough without getting something too big and heavy.
Also, how much condensation can I expect from these things when working hard in the summer? I'm trying to decide if I want it in the bilge or in a shower sump that goes overboard... Are we talking half a gallon a day, or 5 gallons a day?
Thanks,
Austin
