windlass for Gulf 32

Namaste and good morning. I have bought a 1984 Gulf 32 Pilothouse and am researching installing a windlass. I'd rather not reinvent the wheel if any of you have experience with this. It has been suggested that the indented deck needs to be raised flush and then mount a windlass. Has anyone done it with the original configuration of the Gulf 32 (indented deck). Mahalo from Hawaii - the trades are blowin today.....
