Oven Thermostat

On my 1990 Caliber 33 I have a Gas Systems Regal 2133 two burner oven. This was originally CNG and I converted it to propane by replacing all orifices. After that the oven worked perfectly and regulated temperature. Unfortunately, last season I found that the oven will now ignite and heat up but not reignite when it falls below set temperature. I suspect that the mercury type thermostat is faulty. Trouble is that John Schembert who was supplying parts (his web site is "safgas.com") seems to have stopped answering his phone or allowing replacements parts to be ordered online.

The mercury thermostat originally installed in my oven is likely a generic part but I can not find a manufacturers name on it. I think that if I can find an experienced gas range repair shop they may be able to supply me with a suitable replacement thermostat. But I can not locate such a repair shop. Does anyone know of an experienced technician or parts supplier who may be able to help me buy a new thermostat?

I too have a problem with my oven. Mine never starts. I can get the pilot light lit, but never starts. So, I was thinking of replacing the mercury thingy too. I haven't gotten as far on that project as you, but please keep me informed on any information you might find.

It might be worthwhile to take the thermostat out and take it down to your local appliance repair shop to see if they have anything similiar or if they recognize it.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

The problem may lie with the thermocouple (read "flame rod") attached to the gas valve. A supplier of gas appliance parts should be able to fix you up. They may need to know the manufacturer of the gas valve.
