Tohatsu 9.8 on a Chrysler 26

I recently replace the original Chrysler 280 "Sailor" outboard on my 1979 Chrysler 26 sailboat. Can I use the original cables to connect the cockpit controls (throttle, choke and shifter) to the new 2006 Tohatsu 9.8 outboard? The Tohatsu did not come with the Remote package.

It really depends. The throw and direction of the controls on the old engine would have to be similar to the new engine's, otherwise, you'll probably need to replace the remote package.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
