I recently lost my MX Ray sailboat rudder. The only replacement part I could find was through CCI for $700. Does anyone know of an equivalent rudder design or model that I could use instead of buying this one for an exorbitant price? Likewise, would there perhaps be some other place I could buy this part from?
WOW! $700 sounds pretty inexpensive to me. The replacement cost for my 33 Morgan OI rudder is $1,300 plus freight, and that's if I do the installation.
$700 is a good price considering that it is a custom part. it's not like they are selling replacements rudders every day. how long do you think it takes to make one? it would take at least 7 hours to make one so that is about $100 per hour without materials . thats cheap.
Part of the problem with older boats. Upgrades and repairs can be a major percentage of the boats value. Choice is to either fix it or scrap it move on.
