Lightbulb Hatch repair or replace entire unit? Acrylic & hinges

If you take a look at the pictures attached, you should be able to see what I am trying to accomplish. What do you guys think, do I have to replace these or are they reparable? I have seen acrylic replaced but if you look closer the damage Iím working with is a bit more extensive. Nearly all of the hinges, handles, brackets are charred (albeit most still functional). Essentially only the metal frame is still whole.

These hatches are off a í06 Beneteau 373. I have 3 or 4 more ruined hatches not pictured. Safe to say buying new from manufacturer is worst (most expensive) case scenario? Is there a source (other than manufacturer) where I can buy compatible hardware to repair myself? Does anyone know of a company that will repair these if I ship what I have?

Thanks in advance for all the invaluable advice!

Hey,

I can't be 100% sure from the pictures, but those look like Lewmar hatches to me. Defender carries replacement parts. I have bought new lens for the size 10 hatch. Affordable and comes with all the parts.

check it out

Good luck,

AFAIK Bennie (or any other builder) does not make their own hardware like hatches, ports & winches. I'd bet those are Lewmar.

Did the boat have a fire?

I, myself, personally intend to continue being outspoken and opinionated, intolerant of all fanatics, fools and ignoramuses, deeply suspicious of all those who have "found the answer" and on my bad days, downright rude.

I've not used them (yet) either, but I did meet them at the Annapolis Sailboat show last year. They seemed very knowledgeable and were extremely helpful. I had questions about hinges on my hatches. They asked what boat I had and already knew the hatch company and the issue.

Honest too, as their advice was to leave them alone. They could have convinced me to send them in or buy some parts.

If you're unsure how to assess what you have, I would ship them to a pro.

These are definitely Lewmar.

You will be unhappy to note that replacements are fractionally more than insane... $500 to $900 EACH!

I bought just one hinge earlier this year and spent 3 months in Hospital getting over the heart attack.

Beneteau uses the Lewmar standard port lights and low profile hatches. most can be bought new for between $200 and $300 if you shop around. Defender has several models on sale. Lewmar has information online so you can determine the size number you have. looks to me that there is not much to save on the old ones, even the metal frame looks a bit beat up.

Yep. Those are Lewmars. Selectplastics has a very solid reputation. Perhaps email them the photos. I suspect they will suggest replacing them.

Bought replacement portlight lenses from Selectplastics this year. Prices were reasonable and advice was great--they are very helpful and didn't try to sell me extra stuff.

Glee us has some good advice. You are looking at a complete rebuild if they are salvageable, so it would make sense to get a professional estimate for parts and labor.

Re: Hatch repair or replace entire unit? Acrylic & hinges

I used Select Plastics to replace the acrylic on two Lewmar (model 60 and 40) hatches.

Not only did they replace the acrylic, but after the latch handles were damaged during shipping, they retro-fitted the new style Lewmar latch handles into the new acrylic for my old hatches.

Fed-Ex, the shipper, reimbursed me $100 for the damage, and I believe that Select did the retrofit for about the same. The total bill was ~$870.
